ANALYSIS OF SIMILAR OPENING
The opening scene of Twilight takes place deep in the middle of a forest. This leaves audience wandering what is happening. The trees are very close together. This creates a very claustrophobic environment and plants the concept of fear in the minds of the audience members.
The only thing that can be seen in forest is a dear. The dear is calmly eating food, minding its own business. The audience in the cinema would most likely be eating food as well. The dear is completely oblivious to what’s about to happen. The audience are oblivious as well.
The camera shifts to the point-of-view an unknown being. We cannot be sure what this thing is. The figure runs towards the dear. The dear is alerted to the figures presence and runs away. The editing from this point is very fast-paced, cutting from different angles and positions. This is used to create an adrenaline rush inside the audience members.
And just as the audience think the dear has escaped, it is suddenly grabbed by a mysterious figure.
This is similar to our opening because the first part of our opening begins with a teenager walking down the streets minding his business.
He is unaware of the danger that awaits him (so is the audience).
He suddenly senses danger, just like the dear, tries to escape and is captured.
