Synopsis
The film begins when a teenage boy (Jacob) is walking home and dragged into an ally. When Jacob wakes up, he’s surrounded by Marcus, a 1000 year old vampire and his clan in a derelict church yard. Marcus promises to spare Jacob’s life if he carries out a task; to take a parcel of money to a rival vampire. Unaware they’re vampires, he agrees, and delivers the parcel to the vampire, who kills him.
Gabriel, a 300 year old vampire and Jacob’s father, once belonged to Marcus’ clan but didn’t want to feed off humans any more, and threatened to reveal them to humanity if they began killing conspicuously. He’s a detective and when called to the scene of a murder, he realizes it’s his son. A note in his pocket reads “Lora”, the name of his daughter. Gabriel rules it out as an animal attack. Scared and provoked, he sends his wife away to Italy where a friendly, animal eating clan of vampires live. He decides to end Marcus’ clan once and for all, and contacts many other vampires for help and to protect his home, including his half blood friend, Felix. As Lora begins to ask questions, Gabriel faces what he’s tried to avoid ever telling his children; what they are and what he is and what he’s trying to do. He tells her to stay in the house until he returns, but although his scent is all over the house, Marcus still knows Lora is there and takes her. Gabriel returns home to discover she is missing. Gabriel decides not to wait any longer and takes his army of vampires to Marcus’ underground hideout, only to find it empty. He can smell Lora’s blood in there. To find out his whereabouts, he seeks advice from an ancient vampire named Cicero, who can see into the future, and still feeds off humans but respects Gabriel for his commitment and hatred for Marcus, who, as it turns out, is trying to wipe the world of human dominance and raise as food for slaughter. He is swapping money between vampire clans so that they will join him in creating a "Heavenly Energizer" to make humans have the intelligence of mere animals.
Gabriel and his army advance to Marcus’ position in Southern France, as it turns out, arriving at an old bell tower where Marcus is stood with a frail, pale looking Lora, who is still alive but has almost been drained completely of blood. As both forces engage in war, Gabriel chases Marcus and Lora into the top of the bell tower. Marcus taunts Gabriel over Jacob’s death and reveals he had to kill Gabriel to go forward with his plans knowing he would arrive to stop him. Marcus swings open a door to a room filled with humans, dead, chained to the floor. Including his wife. Gabriel and Marcus engage in a fight and Gabriel almost finishes him. Marcus quickly picks up Lora and is about to bite her. Felix runs up the stairs and bites Marcus in the neck furiously, allowing Gabriel enough time to rip of his head. Felix assures Gabriel that all the rival vampires are dead. They take Lora to a hospital and begin a new life in France with the remaining vegetarian vampires. The hospital reveals to Gabriel that Lora has lost too much blood and is dying. His daughter’s wish is to become a real vampire so she’s with her father always. He steels a needle and injects her with vampire venom and turns her into a vampire like himself. They walk out of the hospital to join Felix in Montpellier.
